Who the hell am I? Well, if you wanna know, you’ve come to the right place. So sit back, pop open a cold one and read on…
I’m Christine, and I’ve been a baseball fan since I was a little rugrat back in the late 60’s/early 70’s. I grew up in Brooklyn, NY, as a NY Mets fan…I knew that the Y*****s were evil even then. Good education for later becoming a diehard Red Sox fan. Yeah, I do still have a soft spot for the Mets, so bust me. But at least I was properly trained in the art of Y***** hating!
So now, I live just north of Boston, with my hubby, Mike and six cats. Mike was never a big baseball fan, until I got him into it. I told him from the get-go that he had to accept this part of my life…he didn’t have to participate, but he couldn’t stop me from enjoying it. Luckily, when I made him go to a Sox game with me, he enjoyed it, and there’s no looking back. Now, we are addicted to baseball, especially the many minor league teams that we can easily drive to around here. Nary a summer weekend goes by when we are not at one game or another. Sometimes TWO games in one weekend. How lucky we are to live here, and have access to so many wonderful teams and ballparks…all of which are very affordable.
I really want to promote the whole minor league thing here. It’s wicked expensive to go to Red Sox games, but just about anyone can afford to see quality baseball at a minor league park.
Here is a list of teams that are an easy day trip from the Boston area…
- Pawtucket Red Sox - Class AAA affiliate of the Boston Red Sox
- Portland Sea Dogs - Class AA affiliate of the Boston Red Sox
- Lowell Spinners - Class A Short Season affiliate of the Boston Red Sox
- New Hampshire Fisher Cats - Class AA affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays
- Nashua Pride - independent CanAm League
- Brockton Rox - independent CanAm League
- Worcester Tornadoes - independent CanAm League
- North Shore Navigators - New England Collegiate Baseball League
- Sanford Mainers - New England Collegiate Baseball League
There are many more that I know of, these are just the ones that we can easily get to. Please go and visit their websites for more info. There is so much more baseball here than a lot of people know about, and I want to make you all know about it!
So, when baseball season hits, you will likely find me at one of the above teams’ ballparks on any given weekend. Stop by and say hi, won’t you?
