A royal victory!

In the immortal words of Red Sox radio announcer Joe Castiglione, “Can you believe it?”

Unless you’re living under a rock someplace, or are an out of town fan, you probably already heard the big news…Jon Lester threw a no-hitter tonight against the Kansas City Royals.

This kid’s story is amazing.  A couple of years ago, he was battling cancer.  He won that battle and returned to the Red Sox, to help them win the World Series last year.

I think he was one of the guys they were considering trading in order to get pitcher Johan Santana from the Minnesota Twinkies.  Jacoby Ellsbury’s name was also bandied about for this trade.  Isn’t it a good thing that trade never happened?  Santana ended up going to the New York Mets.

Anyhoo, with Curt Schilling being out on the DL for most of this season, Lester managed to earn a spot in the starting rotation.  And tonight, he proved to the world that he has what it takes for the job.  He was simply amazing!

So not this is the second year in a row that the Sox have had a no-no.  Last year, the Sox actually almost had TWO.  Curt Schilling had one going, but that didn’t work out.   Rookie Clay Buchholz, however, did get his no-no.

Maybe this could be an annual event now!

Anyhoo, congrats to Jon Lester and the Sox on this fantastic achievement! :D
