I have already ranted about Mother’s Day, and all of the frou-frou pink crap that they give out at ballparks. This year, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats gave out those silly pink ball caps. The PawSox have given out flowers to all moms. And there’s another thing that irritates me…the ASSumption that ALL adult women are mothers, and they try to force the freebie on you. I could accept them for being a mom to cats, as they never say what species your kids have to be to qualify…LOL! But I just don’t like pink frou-frou baseball crap. You know me…I will only wear the REAL team colors. The day that I see a baseball team that I like who wears pink on a regular basis will be the day that I wear it, too.
Anyhoo, this is a rant about the two holidays in general. Why are mothers so worshiped and exalted, by ballparks and the media in general, but dads, not so much? Dad did his part to make these kids, and in many families, he is the breadwinner, while mom stays at home to take care of the kids. Shouldn’t Dad get a bit more appreciation for working and supporting his family?
Only TWO ballparks that I write about regularly are doing anything for Father’s Day. But still, it’s not much. The Brockton Rox are having “dads play catch on the field” before the game, and then they will let dads run the bases with their kids after the game. No cool giveaway for Dad.
On the other hand, the Rox’ schedule doesn’t start until after Mother’s Day, so maybe that’s why no giveaway. I dunno.
The Worcester Tornadoes are doing a Father’s Day Catch, as well, but that’s it. Unless Dad is a Spongebob fan, I hear that The Yellow and Porous One will be paying a visit to Fitton Field on Sunday.
If Dad loves baseball, and you’d like to take him to a game on his special day, the Rox and the Tornadoes are not the only games in town this Sunday. The North Shore Navigators will be at Fraser Field, playing the Sanford Mainers. Game time is 7:00PM.
If you’d like to go to an afternoon game, the Nashua Pride will be hosting Les Capitales de Quebec, at 4:05 PM, at Historic Holman Stadium. They’ll be giving out free water bottles to the first 750 fans, dads of not.
That’s pretty much it…all of my other teams are on the road. But there’s still plenty to enjoy!
So, go to any of the above teams’ website to find out how to get tickets. And buy Dad something nice…maybe a nice Roger Dubuis watch, if he’s into that. Or get him something else that he likes. And have fun!
