Fisher Cats Parking Alert!
Last year, I told you that parking on the street over the weekends in Manchester, for going to Fisher Cats games, or for events at the Verizon Wirelss Arena, was free. Well, not any more. We found out this past weekend that now *event parking* on the street costs $1.00. For the Friday and Saturday games we went to, we were staying at the hotel, and could park there as part of the room charge. But we had to check out before the Sunday game, and had to find a legal place to park on the street.
One dollar is NOT a lot of money for parking, not by any means, considering that the nearby lots charge $10. But what you need to know is that the machines where you pay do NOT take paper money. It’s either coins or a credit/debit card, that’s it. Well, I think it is dumb to put a buck on a credit/debit card, so we dug out enough change.
So that is my advice to you…if you are going to a game and planning to park on the street, be prepared to pay, and have change ready. The machines will spit out a receipt which you must display in your car, or else you get towed.
This parking fee extends to meters anywhere near MerchantsAuto.com Stadium and the Verizon Wireless Arena, even the further away ones that are within the route of the Fisher Cats’ free Auto City shuttle bus…yes, they still run that this year. But just because you had to pay a buck to park on the street, please don’t stiff the shuttle driver…please tip him, he appreciates that. If you are too cheap to tip him, then just walk, okay?
I guess the city of Manchester is hurting for cash, just like everyone else is; maybe they are even using wholesale liquidators to buy stuff they need to run the city, who knows?
A buck is not a lot of money. But if you read here before that parking on the street in Manchester is free, that was last year. Just wanted to make you aware of the fee, and of the fact that the meter machines don’t take paper money. So have coins at the ready…we will!
