Happy memories…
I hope you enjoyed the video in the last post. I had a lot of fun putting it together, looking through all the pictures on my computer, deciding which ones to use.
You can easily make something like this, to share with your friends and family on YouTube. All Windows PCs come with a neat little program called Windows Movie Maker, which is wicked easy to use. You can drag and drop video clips, still photos, and sound files, edit to your heart’s content, and get a mice little movie out of it. Try it!
Sometimes I wish I could be one of those people who go around to every single major league ballpark within one season. I don’t have the money for that, though, and even if I did, Mike couldn’t come along because he can’t get that much time off from work to gallivant all over the country. Maybe if we won the Powerball…we could rent one of those travel trailers, so we could bring the cats along. What a movie I could make from a trip like that!
But it makes me happy to do what we can do, which is try to hit most of the ballparks within a reasonable drive, at least once each summer. I carry both a mini video camera and a regular digital camera (I got a new one this year), so I can capture as much as I can for posterity. This is what I share with you here, as well as use for my scrapbooks. When it’s February, 20 degrees out, and a foot of snow on the ground, it makes me feel better to look at those memories of seasons past.
Enough glurge for now. Now, I’m gonna tell you who that is swinging the bat at the beginning of that video!
It’s none other than Bill “Spaceman” Lee, former Red Sox pitcher. This was from video I shot at an Old-Timer’s Game at MerchantsAuto.com Stadium, up in Manchester, NH, last year. It was old Red Sox guys vs. old Y*****s guys. The old Red Sox guys won, not as if it actually counted. Hell, they didn’t even obey baseball rules! Lee was the starting pitcher, then they took him out. Later, he came up to bat. You can’t do that in a REAL baseball game…LOL!
I was glad to see Lee come up to bat. In his book, The Wrong Stuff, he complained about the designated hitter rule, about how much he hated it as a pitcher. He said it made him feel like “half a ballplayer”. Later, he was on the now-defunct Montreal Expos, which were in the National League. The pitchers still hit in the NL, so I guess he was happy with that.
Anyhoo, if you’ve never read this book, get a copy and read it. It’s a fun book by a very colorful character! And it was a real treat to get to see him take the field once again! I have a little more footage that I took of him, I’ll have to post it here sometime.

Hey, glad to see another sports blogger. I too would like to visit every ball park in my life. I’ve only been to handful of major league stadiums, and a bit more minor. Good luck with your goals.
