I hang my head in shame

…because Mike and I left a ball game before it was over.  Today we went to the Worcester Tornadoes game.  But it was so damned hot, that we were both starting to feel a little sick.  I was even starting to feel dizzy.  I was sweating so much, I didn’t need anything like apidexin to lose a few pounds.  I literally had NO appetite, as well.  We ended up leaving during the sixth inning.

We’d planned to go to this place called Brew City, in Woostah, after the game.  But we decided against this, as we didn’t even feel like a beer at the time.  We sat in the car with the A/C running for a while to cool down, and then headed for home.

Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field is a very nice little ballpark, don’t get me wrong.  But the next time we go there, it will either be earlier in the season, or, better yet, a night game.  Unlike most of the other ballparks we frequent, there is absolutely NO roof, NO shade, nowhere to get out of the sun but for the restrooms.  And it was so hot today, even the restrooms provided little relief from the heat.

The weather forecast had called for 90º F in the Boston area.  But it was hotter further inland, no sea breeze or anything.  It felt like at least 100º F in Woostah.  However, I had bought the tickets a few weeks ago, no way to predict the weather that far in advance.

We saw a couple of EMTs on the concourse, pushing an empty wheelchair.  Wonder if they had to treat someone for heat exhaustion.  If we’d stayed there much longer than we did, we’d be next.

I felt bad about having to leave early, but what else could we do?  Other people were leaving, as well.  Yep…next time, NIGHT GAME!

We did end up having dinner out, as by the time we were almost home, an hour later, we were both feeling coled off and much better.  So we stopped at Jasper White’s Summer Shack in Cambridge for dinner.  Yummie!

In the car heading home, we had the Sox game on, and it was not pretty.  We can only hope that things will get better now that Youk will be done serving his suspension, but I don’t know if I can hold out much hope.  Why do I think that I will have to root for a National League team in the World Series again this year?  I refuse to root for an American League team if it’s the R**s or the Y*****s.

Anyhoo, when we got to the Summer Shack, we sat at the bar, and they had the post-game show on NESN.  So we got to see what we missed.  After that was over, they had a show with Ray Bourque and other celebrity jocks in some golf tournament for charity.  I pointed to the TV and told Mike that this must be a show about what the Red Sox are going to be doing in October.  Playing golf, and not baseball.  Sigh.

I hope this heat wave doesn’t last too long.  Next weekend – the PawSox!  But at least our seats are in the shade there!  So it won’t be quite as sweltering!
