It’s about time someone did this…
So I was looking at my calendar, and saw a few baseball game-less weekends. Now, we can’t have that, can we? In the summer, we like to go to at least one minor league game each weekend.
So I got tickets for the Brockton Rox for Saturday, July 25. I also wanted to hit Nashua at least once this year, to see the American Defenders of New Hampshire (formerly the Nashua Pride). Yes, they are playing in Brockton on the 25th, the game we’re going to, but I wanted to go and see them at Holman Stadium in Nashua. They’ve changed ownership since last year, and completely revamped themselves, new name, new uniforms, etc. One of the members of the new ownership group is Dan Duquette, who used to be the Red Sox GM. And former Red Sox player Brian Daubach is the field manager.
I’ve always liked Daubach, which is a big part of why I want to see at least one ADNH game. But when I went to their website to buy tickets, I saw another great reason to go to Holman Stadium.
This is new this year, it is a 21+ club/lounge that is open to those who buy a Legend seat (which is $9.00). It has a full bar, full suite menu, and a balcony to sit on to watch the game. And TV with the Red Sox game, if it happens to be on at the time.
For minor league games, we usually buy the more *expensive* tickets anyway. Nine bucks is what we pay for tickets pretty much everywhere else, so of course I jumped on the Legend tickets.
I say that it is about damned time a ballpark had some sort of adults-only area. All too often, kids are left unsupervised, running about, screaming, totally out of control, no parents in sight. What a great idea for a 21+ place to enjoy the game without all of that crap.
No doubt that the parents of said annoying kids may leave them to run about while THEY go and sit in the Diamond Club. But at least WE get to get away from their kids, too!
Our tickets are for August 1. I will provide a full review of this after we go. If it turns out to be something nice, I will promote it as much as possible, in the hope of getting other minor league teams around here to consider setting up something similar at their ballparks.
We shall see!
