Minor League Baseball: a bargain, even when times are tough!

June 12th, 2008 · No Comments

Okay, gas is over four bucks a gallon, food prices are going up…hell, everything is getting more expensive! You may be disappointed that you can’t look at Outer Banks rentals for vacation this year, as you had hoped. But there are still fun things you can do, without breaking the bank.

As you probably well know, going to a Red Sox game is not only very expensive, but good seats are hard to find. I wonder how ANYONE can afford it, anyone whose name is not Stephen King, that is?

So, as a public service, here are a few fun ideas that are very affordable.

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats are running a “Family Four-Pack” deal. As it says in the image here, you can buy four grandstand seats, and get four small sodas, four hot dogs, and four bags of chips, for only $40.00. That’s ten bucks per person…tell me, where else can you get such a great deal.

There are some restrictions. Games against the Portland Sea Dogs are not included in this promotion. And tickets to any remaining games other than Sea Dogs games are based on availability

Call the Fisher Cats’ Box Office at (603) 641-2005, extension 2, to order your Family Four Pack, or visit the Box Office at MerchantsAuto.com Stadium in person (check nhfishercats.com for hours).

Here is something that is FREE! The Pawtucket Red Sox will be holding a series of Youth Baseball Clinics at McCoy Stadium. More info and the schedule can be found HERE. Kids will learn baseball instruction and tips from PawSox manager Ron Johnson, as well as coaches and players. After the clinics, families can stay to watch on-field practice and workouts, also for free.

However, if you want to stay for that evening’s game, you gotta buy tickets. You can buy tickets on the day of the clinic at the Box Office, or order ahead of time at PawSox.com. I recommend the latter, they go fast. Seats start at six bucks for General Admission.

Finally, if you really want to go to Fenway, but thought you couldn’t afford it, think again. There is a great article on redsox.com about bargains at the ballpark, including info about the Futures at Fenway minor league double-header. Ticket prices for this event, to be held on August 9, are greatly reduced from regular Red Sox prices. I see that seats are going fast, so get ‘em while you can!

See…lots of summer fun, without going broke! Enjoy! :D
