North Shore Navigators…

Opening Night is…TOMORROW, June 7, at 7PM. They will be playing the Vermont Mountaineers at Fraser Field, in Lynn, MA.

As you may well know, Fraser Field was once the home of the now-defunct North Shore Spirit. They were part of the independent CanAm League, but went belly-up after last season ended. But it didn’t take too long for Fraser to find new tenants…now the North Shore Navigators, part of the New England College Baseball League, will be playing there.

The team formerly known as the Holyoke Giants has packed up their Delsey luggage to move to Lynn. I’ve checked out their website and their blog, which links to some good press about the new team. Check out this article from the Boston Globe. It’s enough to make you really excited about coming out to Lynn, and seeing what the Navs have to offer.

The Spirit did a lot of things wrong towards the end, in my opinion, which I think led to their demise. Let’s see if the Navs can do better. We quit going to Spirit games because it had gotten to the point where we just weren’t happy with the way things were being run after a while. My guess is that many others felt the same way. It’s a shame, because it started out very nicely.  Former Spirit owner Nick Lopardo did the best he could, but it just didn’t work out.

So, we’ll probably be heading out there tomorrow night. There will be post-game fireworks, as well as free Chick-fil-A sammiches for the first 1000 fans who show up.

Tickets are eight bucks for real seats with backs, five bucks for bleachers. I don’t think you can buy them in advance, I think it’s a pay at the gate deal, like the Sanford Mainers in the same league are.

Anyhoo, if we do go and check this out tomorrow night, I will have pics and a review.
