Opening night a sell-out?

May 25th, 2008 · No Comments

At the Brockton Rox, that is.  Last night was opening night, and I swear, I have never seen that place so crowded before.  I think they were selling standing room tickets, because there were a lot more people standing around than there were empty seats.

I wanted to go and check out the “new and improved” right field beer garden, but the concourse was so crowded, I couldn’t get back there.  I’m a little disappointed in the beer that I COULD get to, though.  “Jack’s Place”, out near left field, used to have Sam Adams beer, but they don’t anymore.  They have Sea Dog Wild Blueberry, Narragansett, Coors Light, and Miller Lite.  The regular concessions have Coors Light, Miller Lite, and Molson.  Mike said he saw a tap for Foster’s Lager someplace, but it was so crowded, I couldn’t find it.

What they have at that beer garden, I don’t know.  Maybe it will be less crowded next time we’re at Campanelli, and then I can find out.

I drank Molson and Sea Dog, depending which had the shorter line.  Good thing we ate at Texas Toadhouse before the game, standing in line for food was something that would have taken forever!

No, I wasn’t the millionth fan, and therefore did not win a million bucks.  Some little kid named Nathan something was.  He didn’t win a million, either, because the Rox didn’t hit for the cycle.  But he did win Red Sox tickets and other free swag.

The Rox beat the Nashua Pride, 4-2 in the home opener.  There was also a very nice fireworks display after the game.  Despite a few sprinkles early in the evening, the weather held out…I didn’t even need to put on the jacket I brought.

In other Rox news, is you have a military ID, you can get into the game free tomorrow, Memorial Day.  The 215th Army Band will be on hand as part of the evening’s events, to honor all who serve or have served in the military.  Game starts at 6:05 PM, vs. the Sussex Skyhawks.
