Preparing for baseball
I’ve been lucky so far this fall/winter. Used to be, I spent most of November flat on my back with the flu. Then I started getting the seasonal flu shots, and all was well.
But this flu season, I was unable to get the seasonal shot, there was a huge shortage, and and almost NOBODY had any doses. Mike’s work had gotten a small number, and offered them to employees only, not spouses or kids. He doesn’t like getting shots, but I convinced him to get one anyway. I wondered if maybe, because he works with a lot of people who have kids, and kids are such germ vectors, that he might have been passing the virus on to me, while not getting horrifically ill himself.
So now it’s February, and despite my lack of any flu shot, I have not gotten sick…YET. But I was afraid my luck would run out, and with my kind of luck, it would pick April to run out. Red Sox Opening Day, I mean NIGHT, gack, is on my birthday. But what we’re really looking forward to is New Hampshire Fisher Cats Opening Night, on Thursday, April 15! We’re actually going to that, and since Mike has to take off from work on Thursday and Friday anyway, we’re staying in the hotel that faces the ballpark for TWO nights, and going to the Friday night game as well. The absolute LAST thing I want is for the stupid flu to hit me and ruin that for us. Mike had to miss Opening Night there last year, due to being in the hospital. I went, though. But I want us BOTH to go this year. Even if I were able to sign up for Bell internet, which they have in Canada, where the parent team of the Fisher Cats, the Blue Jays, play, and watch the game that way, it just would not be the same!
So, FINALLY, I got my seasonal flu shot today. Better late than never. I also got the Hamthrax shot, just in case. It’s been around long enough, people aren’t dropping dead all over the place from it, so I decided it was safe to get. I made Mike get it, too.
Now, we’re just waiting not-so-patiently for it to be April already!
