Red Sox about to sign Adrian Beltre

…depending on the outcome of a physical, that is.  Story HERE.

I have mixed feelings about this.  I was happy when the Mike Lowell deal to Texas fell through, just because I like the guy and want him to stay in Boston.  He did have surgery on the injured thumb, and is reportedly going to be ready for Spring Training.  But what does the acquisition of Beltre going to mean for Lowell’s future in Boston?

At least if they do manage to deal Lowell sometime this winter, they’ll have a decent replacement in Beltre.  I thought trading Lowell for some minor league catcher was a stupid idea, and I’m glad it didn’t go through.

We shall see…
