It’s been asked again and again…and there ARE some teams that do have cheerleaders, such as the Florida Marlins. But what do YOU think?
It seems to me that most people say NO…I did a random search and came up with this forum thread. Most people there said NO, although a few said YES to cheerleaders.
My opinion on this is, and always will be, a staunch NO. My personal opinion is that I think the whole idea of cheerleading is demeaning to women. To me, it is NOT a sport on its own, it’s just scantily clad women who cheer on MEN who play the real sport. Women should feel embarrassed to be doing it. If these women want to be in sports, why not play a REAL sport? There is still a pro women’s basketball league, and perhaps, if we did away with this cheerleading crap, there might be more REAL pro sports for women to participate in.
I know that there will always be horny guys out there who want to ogle women wearing outfits that are not much more than babydolls. But, sheesh, does it HAVE to be a part of pro sports? I can tell you right now that as soon as I see any team whose games I go to get their own cheerleaders, that will be the day I stop attending those games. Not because the women look better than I do, that is NOT the point. The point is that I want to see BASEBALL, not bimbos. Mascots, I don’t mind, in fact, I rather like them, and the cute between innings games they play. But I do NOT want to see women being treated as sex objects, and I will NEVER pay to see it.
Baseball already has people to cheer for them…the fans who come to the games. And we women don’t have to strip down to our skivvies to let the teams know that we care about them.
Please…let’s keep baseball cheerleader-free. When ball games are on FOX, it is bad enough that they can’t keep the cameras on the play on the field as it is. Imagine if they had cheerleaders, we’d be seeing nothing but, just like with their football coverage. I think that if guys want to see half naked women, they should buy a girlie mag or a “Girls Gone Wild” video, and not watch ball games. Okay?
