Sunday Stuph
So…after all of my bellyaching over Mother’s Day and all of the pink stuff that seems to go with it…guess who is now the owner of a pink Fisher Cats tote bag?
Yeah, I ended up taking one at yesterday’s game. The guys who were handing them out were nice and I didn’t want to be rude to them. Also, I doubt I was depriving someone else of one, as they had boxes of the things piled up. I think they had about a thousand in all to give away.
And besides, I AM a catmommy…LOL!
Despite the pinkness of the tote bag, it’s actually pretty nice. I expected a cheap flimsy canvas tote. But this one not only has a bottom so that it can stand up, but a waterproof lining and a zipper and all. I actually could have used something like this last week at the PawSox game. Some kid behind us spilled a whole bottle of water, and some of it ended up seeping into my Red Sox purse, which was under my seat. I didn’t notice this until I went to get some money out of my wallet for beer, and the napkins I had in there were all soggy. At ball games, I almost always take too many napkins, and I save the unused ones on my purse. Comes in handy for when I have to use the restroom and there are no paper towels. That seems to happen at McCoy Stadium a lot.
But anyhoo, those napkins probably saved my Flip video camera from being ruined. The only case I have for that is the velvety one that came with it. My regular digital camera is in a case that’s waterproof, and it was also safe.
So, despite the pinkness, I will likely use this tote bag at all future games. People spill things at games, it’s a fact of life. It’s up to me to protect my things from it.
You never know when you might actually need some of the giveaway items. A few years ago, at MerchantsAuto.com Stadium, some people from Catholic Medical Center were handing out seat cushions with the hospital’s logo on them. CMC is a big sponsor of the Fisher Cats, they sponsor a lot of the giveaways, such as the pink tote bags and some cool T-shirts from a few years ago, that we still wear. Anyhoo, we don’t really use seat cushions at games, but we took them anyway, and they ended up sitting in the trunk of the car for a couple of years.
Recently, Mike complained about his butt hurting from sitting in the ballpark seats. I remembered that we had those seat cushions, and now he’s been using them. Both of them, for extra butt padding. So it was a good thing we took them, now we don’t have to buy a seat cushion, or bring one of the bed wedges from home, or anything like that.
It was a good game, even though the Fisher Cats lost. The turnout was pretty decent, even though it was a bit windy and chilly. The other Mother’s Day promotion they were dong was giving out free tickets to all moms. These tickets had to be obtained at the box office, with proof of motherhood. They were probably as lax about that as they were in handing out the tote bags, probably letting any female who’s reached childbreaing age have them. The bag giver-outer guys didn’t even ask to see pictures of my kids, even though we came in with none in tow. They do not allow cats in the ballpark, you know, so I had to leave my kids at home. The free ticket thing required pics, though. It said so on the website. I did not ask for a free ticket, as we already had tickets to this game via our mini-plan. And I don’t know if I’d have gotten a free ticket by showing them cat pictures. So I wouldn’t have even tried.
But it looked like the promotion did bring a good number of people out to the game, which was good.
After the game, we went to the Rover, and was glad to see that the breakfast thing WAS a typo…it was actually pretty quiet when we got there. So we hung out, had some beers and food, and headed for home.
The Sox beating the Evil Rays last night capped off a most perfect day!
