…and the one thing I’m glad about is that no CURRENT Red Sox players are on the list of 85 players that may have been known to use steroids. I really would hate to see our hard-earned World Series win tainted by this scandal.
I saw that our good friend Eric Gagne is on the list. Yeah, he was on the 2007 World Series team…but, as we all know, he did nothing to contribute to the win. I like to say that the Sox pushed on and won the World Series DESPITE his suckiness. But in any case, he doesn’t count, and he’s gone now. Let Milwaukee deal with him.
I’d have been much more upset if someone like Mike Lowell or David Ortiz had made that list, as these were guys who contributed big-time to the win. But Mike Lowell certainly doesn’t look like he’s ever used any steroids, and Big Papi is just naturally big.
It just goes to show…it IS possible to win without cheating.

As much as I hate the Y*****s, I’m disappointed…but not really surprised…that Roger Clemens made the list. Yeah, I’ve booed him along with everyone else around here, but the fact is that he was always a great pitcher, and a shoo-in for Cooperstown. If he ever retires and stays that way, that is. A player has to be retired for five full years before being eligible for the Hall of Fame.
But now, I wonder what this will mean for Clemens, and other HOF caliber players. If they really were using steroids, will they be struck from the record books? I mean, what’s her name…Marion Jones, the Olympic track star, just lost her medals because she confessed to using steroids. So, it might just be that Roger and others shouldn’t be so quick to pack the family into the minivan, load up the van rack, and head to Cooperstown for the induction ceremony. If they did cheat, they don’t deserve it.
I’m still hoping for the day when Barry Bonds’ home run record is struck from the record books. Maybe it will happen, especially if he goes to prison for the obstruction of justice thing.
This whole thing saddens me…WHY do they feel the need to cheat? I partially blame the over-the-top salaries, which provide the pressure to perform. In a lot of ways, I liked the game better back before they had free agency or any of that crap.
Not to mention that major league tickets were far more affordable back then…I remember going to Shea Stadium as a kid and sitting in the nosebleed seats for $1.50. I wonder how much those seats are now?
