…right next to Steinbrenner, because I am now about to publicly confess: I don’t particularly enjoy going to Fenway Park.
There, I said it. and in case you didn’t catch it the first time, I will say it again: I don’t particularly enjoy going to Fenway Park.
I know that this is something that I am SUPPOSED to like, but sorry, as the years have gone by, I like it less and less. For one thing, the expense is ridiculous. For what it would cost to go to one Red Sox game at Fenway, we could go to many minor league games. The tickets are too expensive, and so are the. concessions. Sheesh…cheap swill beer like Bud Lite costs seven bucks this year, or so I’ve heard. I’d hate to think of what the good stuff that we drink goes for now? $7.50? $8.00? At the minor league parks, a decent beer such as Sam Adams, or a local micro goes for no more than $5.50. I know that’s what it is at Merchantsauto.com Stadium up in Manchester (Fisher Cats), as well at at McCoy down in Pawtucket.
I also hate all of the stupid security crap. After 9/11, they started patting down people like they were criminals, and inspecting every inch of every bag brought in. They have lightened up on that since, but it’s still VERY annoying, especially since they still limit the SIZE of a bag I can bring in. Sorry, but I can’t fit my camera stuff in a small purse.
The place is also just too crowded…they are cramming 35,000 or so people into a relatively small piece of real estate. Minor league ballparks, on the other hand, are nowhere near as crowded. There’s not long lines for everything, including the all-important restrooms, as they often are at Fenway.
And just getting to Fenway is a pain. Driving in Boston is horrible, and parking prices are through the roof. I can’t believe people pay upwards of fifty bucks to park for just ONE game! There’s parking at the Prudential Center for $15.00 if you have tickets to the game, but that’s a bit of a hike.
