Update stuph…

July 23rd, 2008 · No Comments

Yeah, it’s been a while, hasn’t it? I’m still here, we’ve just been out of the house a lot. That’s why there have only been Utterz phone posts lately.

We were in Portland to see the Sea Dogs last Friday, but it rained like all hell, and the game ended up being postponed.

oh-oh

The text didn’t come through for the Utter for this pic, or for any of them, for that matter. I must not be doing it right. Anyhoo, I took this pic from the car, on the way from York Beach to Portland. We were about 2/3 of the way there when the storm hit, so we kept forging ahead.

When we got to Hadlock Field it was still coming down at a pretty good clip. They would not let anyone go out and sit in their seats, even if they wanted to, because there was lightening, and the seating bowl there is mostly aluminum. So we all had to hang out in the concourse, which, there, is underneath the seating bowl. Man, it was hotter than all hell, with all of that body heat. It was actually cold enough outside, where we needed to bring jackets…but we certainly didn’t need them on the concourse! I was so glad when we were given the okay to go to our seats, as the rain had stopped.

But only for about 15-20 minutes…just as they were rolling the tarp off the field, the rain started up again, and back to the concourse we all went. We had another beer, and then the came was officially called.

Well, we plan to be back in Portland over Labor Day weekend, and this rain better be LONG gone by then! Especially for August 31, that is the cool “Field of Dreams” pre-game celebration. This is really cool, they do some fence installation in the outfield, to make it look like a corn field, and the Sea Dogs players emerge from the corn field, just like in the movie. They are all wearing old-fashioned uniforms, and they come into the stands and greet and shake hands with the fans. We went to this a few years ago, it was very cool.

In other news, we went to the Fisher Cats game on Sunday…I was scared that it would be rained out, but luckily, it held out for us. I’m feeling a little sad because there are only two more games left in our mini-plan. I will DEFINITELY renew these seats for next year, as long as they will still have the Sunday Funday plan!

This weekend, it’s the Nashua Pride for us…this will be the only time we’ll get up there this season. We usually don’t do Sunday evening games, but most of their games seem to be in the evening. And it starts pretty early, at 5:05.

We went up there last year once, too, because I wanted to see El Guapo. And we saw him. I also bought the El Guapo “bobble-belly” doll.

Finally, the Sox are getting a break, by playing a sucky team. Please, no nasty comments from Mariners fans, they really DO suck this year, sorry!

I’m just disappointed because I was not able to get tickets to any of Big Papi’s rehab games…they all sold out in five minutes. But I’m glad to see he will be back very soon…Big Papi, WE NEED YOU!
