Weekend Wrap-up

I’m back!  Didja miss me?  It was a wonderful weekend, and FINALLY we got some gorgeous summer weather that lasted all weekend long.

Before I say anything else, I want to send my best wishes to Dustin Pedroia and his family.  In case you haven’t heard, he is bowing out of the All-Star Game due to the fact that his wife, Kelli, has been hospitalized  for premature labor.  The couple’s first child is not due until August.  I’m in full agreement that family should come first, and Dustin is where he needs to be right now.  I truly hope Kelli and the baby will be okay.

It’s a good thing that I’m a fan of both the Sea Dogs and the Fisher Cats, because then I’m not upset no matter who wins or loses.  This series so far has not been going well for the Sea Dogs.  They won on Friday night, but lost on Saturday and Sunday.  Maybe the Sea Dogs will win tomorrow and tie the series.  The two teams meet tomorrow at Hadlock Field at noon.  I wish we could have stayed another day so we could go, but that’s just how it goes.

I hoped to get some blogging done over the weekend, but since I don’t have my own laptop (yet), and Mike hasn’t been back to work yet in order to have brought his work one on the trip, as he usually does, I had little computer time.  The Inn at St. John has free WiFi in the rooms that works very well, and they also have one computer in the lobby for guest use.  The only problem is that the hotel was full, and almost every time I wanted to use that computer, someone else was using it.  I got to check my email once, and then had to get off of the thing so the next person could use it.

acerlaptopSo I’m still shopping for an inexpensive laptop, to bring on trips and stuff.  I was thinking of a little netbook, but now I think I want to spend a bit more and get a full-featured laptop.  Perhaps this factory refurbished Acer laptop might be a good choice.  I found it on sale at Buy.com for well under $500, plus free shipping. Oh, and no sales tax!  This is a biggie because next month, Massachusetts sales tax is going up from 5% to 6.25%.  I’ve ordered plenty of items from Buy.com before, and they have never collected Massachusetts sales tax so far.  Why should I pour more money into the coffers of the useless politicians on Beacon Hill, when I can order online, tax-free?

I liie this particular laptop not just because of the good price, but because it is lightweight, what I liked about the little netbooks, but is still full-sized and full-featured, DC/DVD drives, webcam, and TONS of hard drive space for pictures and whatever else.

Buy.com ships via FedEx, which means I can’t get it shipped here to the house, or to our P.O. box.  But Mike can get FedEx at work, and the good news is that if all goes well, he’s back on the job this Wednesday.  So I just may be ordering this!

Visiting Portland is always a treat, especially if it includes a game (or two, or three) at Hadlock Field! We’ll be back in September for Labor Day Weekend, and the annual “Field of Dreams” day!
