Where have I been?

I caught something on the news the other night, about former Sox GM Dan Duquette buying a team that will play in Nashua, in Historic Holman Stadium.  Former Red Sox player Brian Daubach will be the manager.  I didn’t catch the whole thing, and I wondered…what happened to the Pride?

I didn’t have to look much further than NashuaPride.com….there are two stories linked to from the front page, both dated September 30.  Why am I only hearing about this NOW?

The deal is, the guy who used to own the Pride sold it to Dan Duquette and his group, and they have renamed it the American Defenders of New Hampshire.  Former owner John Stabile threw in the towel, he was barely breaking even, and couldn’t afford to keep the team going as it was.

Duquette’s partners in this new venture are retired U.S. Navy Lt. Commander Terry Allvord, and Nokona executives Buddy Lewis and Jerry O’Connor. It’ll be interesting to see what they do with the team now, how they will get fans in the seats at Holman again. I know that the past few times we were there, fans were pretty sparse.

Nashua is a great place to have a team, and the location of Holman Stadium is a good one…not far from the main drag and all of its retail franchises, restaurants, and all. It’s easy to find, and has plenty of free parking. It’s really a nice little ballpark, and I’m glad that the team will be back, even if its under a new name and new ownership.

And surely, people will want to come out and see Brian Daubach. I know I do! :D
