Where is Roger?
So, Roger Clemens signed with the Y*****s. For a *minor league* contract? Yeah, right…the day he actually plays for any of the Y***** minor league clubs, is the day I will wear a Y***** hat in public, and post a picture of it here on Ye Olde Blogge.
As in, “it ain’t gonna happen”.
I am just sitting here quaking in my Reeboks over this one. I am so a-scared that Roger is going to lead the Skanks to first place and another World Series victory. Yep. And monkeys will fly out of my butt.
Roger Clemens has had a fantastic career, no doubt, and he will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligiblity. I won’t begrudge him for that, as it will be well-deserved. But still…the guy is being a serious attention whore here. And so is Georgie-Porgie, who is paying his overly inflated one-year salary. I was sitting at a bar at one of my favorite restaurants the other day, watching the Sox game, and shooting the breeze with the bartender. We talked about Clemens, and pretty much agreed that this whole thing is a publicity stunt, for both Roger and Georgie-Porgie. He’s not going to be pitching that much…we will see him mostly in games against major rivals, like the Red Sox. But he’ll just pitch only when HE wants to…he is just there to take people’s attention away from the fact that this year, the Y*****s really DO suck!
So, my official opinion on this is that I honestly DON’T CARE. I really don’t believe that he’ll help the Skanks much, except to generate attention. The Sox are doing well this year because they have a good team, not becuase they paid a gazillion dollars for Dice-K. They have the best bullpen they’ve had in ages, and even the guys at the bottom of the batting order are contributing. You can’t get much better than that!
I would think that Roger would want that plaque in Cooperstown, just like his old pal, Wade Boggs (who I no longer hate, because he chose to wear the Red Sox hat in the Hall!). But the only way he’s ever gonna get that is to retire, and stay retired for five full seasons. As I said before, there is no doubt in my mind that he’ll get the votes to get in on the first year of his eligibility (hopefully, I will still be alive by then).
But it’s his choice, and I don’t really care what he does. But he can’t pitch forever. This guy is almost as old as I am, and even if he works out and stays in shape, there is still only so long you can go. If I were in his cleats, I’d want to go out in a blaze of glory, while still a good pitcher, as opposed to doing a Bret Saberhagen, and throwing in the towel because of repeated injuries, many due to age.
Just my opinion!
