Why was it necessary?

As much of a Y***** hater that I am, I feel sad that no more games will be played in the old ballyard.  Not because the Y*****s are pretty much all done for the year, they’ll be playing golf after next week…but that Steinbrenner found it necessary to build a new ballpark in the first place.  Why can’t they leave a classic alone?

So now, the only “classic” ballparks left are Fenway Park and Wrigley Field.  Years ago, there was all of this talk about a “new Fenway”, but it never happened.  Instead, the team was sold to the Henry/Werner/Lucchino group, and they opted to keep Fenway Park alive, just find ways to fix it up and add more seating.  They have done an awesome job of it.

I’d also love to see the Cubbies win a World Series at Wrigley.  Geez, if any fans deserve it, they do. They’ve waited longer than we have.   It is their time.  Even if it ends up being a Red Sox/Cubbies series, I would not be upset one bit if the Cubbies took it all.  Let them have the joy we had in 2004.  I will sit here and celebrate with them when that curse of the goat, or whatever it is, is reversed.

Anyhoo, it’s sad that Steinbrenner wanted to shut down a big part of baseball history.  Why not just remodel, he’s done it several times over the years?  When I was a kid in NY, I remember the Y*****s playing in Shea Stadium (another place that is going bye-bye) while they were renovationg Y***** Stadium.  It looks like a big enough ballpark, and it is loaded with history.  It seems like sacrilege to tear it down and play elsewhere.

Sox fans would not allow Fenway Park to be torn down and rebuilt elsewhere.  I bet many Y***** fans are pissed, too.

Farewell to the House That Ruth Built.  As much as I hate the Y*****s now, it’s still a travesty that this is going away forever.

Maybe the Curse of the Bambino really HAS reversed…maybe the Babe is pissed that the house that he built is going bye-bye, and that is why the Y*****s are playing golf and not baseball in October.  And might be forevermore.  Until 2086, maybe… :P
